BioXRT: a novel platform for developing
online biological databases
based on the Cross-Referenced Tables model

BioXRT database development platform aims to
provide a reusable tool for biologists to build online databases
without in-house development or duplication of effort.

  • Description
    • BioXRT system is designed to allow biologists to publish their data on the Internet with only minimal knowledge of database design and usage. It provides a measure of simplicity and ease of use suitable for niche applications in the research community. In particular, BioXRT is an excellent choice for small and medium size labs with local results they wish to publish in conjunction with, and correlated to, data from other public sources. The system's simple setup allows the researchers to bring their database online quickly, and its flexible database schema can manage database expansion of unforeseen complex data without the need for database or software redevelopment.

  • The XRT model
    • The Cross-Referenced Tables (XRT) model was developed to be a broadly applicable, extensible and easy-to-use data modeling system. Being strong in handling textual data and complex relationship, XRT is particularly suitable for modeling biological data, which is primarily descriptive. Here is the specificaion of the XRT model.
